The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon is the Irish government agency for developing the arts and it operates as an autonomous body under the aegis of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media. The Arts Council has a role and function in the Development Plan process as a Prescribed Body.

The Arts Council works in partnership with artists, arts organisations, public policy makers and others to build a central place for the arts in Irish life.
