Litir Chumhdaigh

I am a resident of Cork City centre, I love the city and want to the city to develop in a way that protects and maintains its existing heritage, historic buildings and Quay walls.

Tuairimí:
Protect our existing heritage
Caibidil:
Volume 3 - Built Heritage Objectives
Ábhair:
Built Heritage Objectives

I want to see an end to dereliction of properties. It should be illegal for developers to demolish historic buildings or to hold on to them as they become derelict. Property owners must be required to maintain their buildings or sell them.

The historic Quay walls should be restored and protected. The flooding issue should be tackled with a barrier in Cork Harbour and with natural flood plains and permeable road/ground surfaces so excess water can be soaked up by the land.

There needs to be more green spaces in Cork. The site of the former tax office opposite the grand parade would be a fantastic location for a new park.

Purpose built student accommodation must be affordable for students from ordinary families. This must be stipulated when planning permission is granted

Public housing must be built on public land and not sold to developers whose objective is to make profits for their shareholders.

Eochairfhocail:
Flooding
quay walls
Green spaces
affordable housing
dereliction
