Submission in support of Amendment 2.97
Tuairim
As an employer in Cork City I wish to put on record my strong support for the proposed development of 137 houses on the City end of the Lee Road.
I am not sure that people in general and the council are really aware of just how bad the shortage of labour within the City really is. I have been constantly short staffed now for over a year and the situation if getting worse not better. A huge part of the problem is that people who wish to come to Cork to live and work here just can not find accommodation to live in. I have offered jobs to many people recently who wished to move here but then could not find accommodation. There is a huge shortage of accommodation in Cork City and its suburbs which urgently needs to be addressed by allowing sensible medium and high density developments like this one to go ahead as quickly as possible. I note the completion time in this case is circa 3 years. This is vital for the growth and economic success of the City in to the future.
As regards the location of the development itself, it is within the city bounds and there are already developments on either side of it. It is an easy walk or cycle to the city so car ownership will be optional, a huge benefit to the environment. The medium density is making good use of the unused land in this area.
I strongly support the completion of this development as soon as possible
