Submission in support of Amendments 2.97 and 2.98
Tuairim
I think this development is a wonderful vision for the future of housing on the Lee Road and I am wholeheartedly supporting it.
I grew up in Shanakiel and I am very familiar with this site, I have looked at a number of submissions published against this development and it leaves me at a loss to understand why people do not accept how desperate our need for housing is on the north side of Cork City. We would all like to avoid extra development in the area we live in, however that is not realistic as housing needs will have to be met. From knowing this site, I can’t see how it affects any of the Lee Road residents in a negative way, indeed it will improve security and the landscape plans for the lower section are quite impressive. Furthermore with working from home becoming a real option for many people going forward, the traffic volumes will not be an issue when you consider also that the St Kevins development traffic is exiting in Shanakiel and not the Lee Road..
As well as the above there are long established primary and secondary schools in the area which have capacity due to the ageing population in their catchments.
There are many churches and community organisations in the area which would benefit from an influx of new residents
The site is well served with medical facilities given the proximity to the Bons Secours, Mercy and Cork University Hospitals and the Mount Desert and Farranlea Community Care Homes.
I look forward to seeing this development built in the next two to three years.
