Submission in support of Amendment 2.97
Tuairim
I am a Lee Valley resident for over 40 years and I have always wondered why much needed housing has not been delivered on the Lee Road when you consider the density of housing from Bishopstown right out to Ballincollig. I drive in and out the Lee Road two to four times a day and have always thought what a wonderful area to live for people, close to town and yet tranquil.
I fully support this development and I find it somewhat frustrating to see local Lee Road residents who would just like their area to stay the same as it is right now filing objections on grounds that could apply to any development anywhere in Ireland. The reality is that we need housing and indeed we need it quickly, and this looks like a very nice looking development to me, and indeed of a much higher standard than many recent developments in the Cork area.
The north side of Cork is desperately in need of housing, and indeed if for any reason this development does not go ahead it will be many more years before this much needed housing is built.
The site overlooks the Lee Fields, the Mardyke and Fitzgerald’s Park which are the premier amenity parks in the city
There are football, canoeing, tennis and cricket clubs nearby which I am sure would welcome new members.
The University’s Mardyke Arena is available to all age groups and provides a swimming pool, running track, all-weather ball pitches and fitness training.
All of the above are but a 15 minute walk from this proposed development.
The site is also close to the major pedestrian and cycle route which runs from Curragheen through the Lee Fields, Mardyke and North Mall to the City Centre.
I am really looking forward to seeing this development built in the next few years.
