Litir Chumhdaigh
My name is Ryan Mac Sweeney and I am a (age has been REDACTED) year old male born and breed in Cork City. I love Cork and I am eager to have my say on the future of Cork City especially the City Centre. My motivation for my submission is the lack of affordable housing in the city centre with many people forced to move to the suburbs to live. This results in severe traffic congestion especially at peak times and with the return of offices in a weeks time and also the number of new office developments either completed, under construction or in the planning stages this is going to mean more people working in the city centre in the years to come. In addition parking in the city centre is a nightmare with many people having to either pay for parking or have to park far away from the city centre and its many amenities. If there are more homes built in the city centre that means less traffic on the roads, more parking spaces as well as cleaner air and less dereliction in the city centre. In addition I would also like to see more skyscrapers built in the city centre in the future especially around the Docklands area. The former Tax Office on Sullivan's Quay is an ideal location for housing as well as on the South Mall with many offices moving from there to Penrose Dock meaning more empty sites that could be used for housing and also George's Quay, Parnell Place, Mac Curtain Street and Patrick Street as Patrick Street has a high vacancy rate with the Debenhams store an ideal one for new housing.
I want to see more and more new homes built in the city centre in the years to come in order to cater for the increase in population in the 20 years as part of Project Ireland 2040. With all the new office and hotel developments either in the planning, stage or under construction at the moment it means there will be a large increase in the number of people working in the city centre so as a result we need more housing for them. In addition the number of young people locked out of the housing market, families who cant afford to buy a home or single people who are forced to live with their parents well into adulthood there needs to be more social, affordable and cost rental homes built. The only way for the housing crisis to end is that more social, affordable and cost rental homes are built especially in the city centre.
