Notice Under Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994
R851 Ballycurreen Road for eastbound and westbound Inline Bus Stops in the vicinity of Hampstead and in the townland of Ballycurreen.
Provision of a built-out bus boarding area, uncontrolled pedestrian crossing (dropped kerb only), and modification to the layout of the existing footpaths and hardshoulder.
Pursuant to the provisions of Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994, Cork City Council hereby gives notice of its intention to carry out the following traffic management measures in the interest of the safety and convenience of road users.
Ballycurreen Industrial Estate Bus Stops Scheme
It is proposed to enhance the provision of public bus services by introducing two new bus stops on R851 Ballycurreen Road, near its junction with Hampstead and Curraghconway Court. The roadway will be modified to accommodate two new bus cages (eastbound and westbound) and the footway on the northern side builtout. The works will also include upgrades to the crossing location throughout the localised area.
The main elements of the proposed works are:
Proposed eastbound and westbound 18m bus cage to be installed.
Proposed buildout to be installed into the carriageway from the northern footway.
2.0m wide uncontrolled crossing with tactile paving on Ballycurreen Road.
2.0m wide uncontrolled crossing with tactile paving on either side road surrounding the bus stop.
Proposed footway amendments on the western side of Curraghconway Court
Renewal/replacement of other road drainage, road signage and road markings as might be necessary.
All other associated ancillary site works.
In accordance with the Habitats Directive, an Appropriate Assessment (AA) Screening has been carried out for the project, in relation to any potential impacts upon any Natura 2000 sites including the Cork Harbour Special Protection Area [Site No. 004030] and the Great Island Channel Special Area of Conservation [Site No. 001058]. The findings of the AA Screening concluded that no significant effects on any Natura 2000 sites are likely and it was not necessary to undertake any further stages of the Appropriate Assessment process.
In addition, the proposed project has been screened to determine whether an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required and it has been concluded that the proposed development would not be likely to have significant effect on the environment and that the preparation and submission of an EIA Report is not therefore required.
Drawings and other details of the proposed works including an Appropriate Assessment screening report and Environmental Impact Assessment screening report are available for inspection online at https://consult.corkcity.ie, at Reception Desk, Cork City Council, City Hall, Anglesea Street, Cork on working days from Friday 13th June 2025 to Friday 18th July 2025 between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m.
