Naming of new pedestrian/cycle bridge linking Lambley’s Lane (off South Main Street) and Crosses Green.
Background
The new bridge is now open to the public. It connects Crosses Green to South Main Street via Lambley’s Lane. The bridge provides a direct connection between the City Centre and Crosses Green/ Wandesford Quay.
The bridge’s curved alignment was designed to respond to the complex conditions created by its position on the bend of the south channel of the River Lee.The design: - mirrors the curvature of the river channel at this location, it protects and preserves the large lime tree on Crosses Green, it serves the primary user desire line towards Clarkes Bridge and ensures sufficient river clearance is achieved.
The bridge was manufactured off-site and installed during the summer of 2025, the 27-meter-long structure has been open to the public since November, and its benefits are already evident.
