Knapp’s Square and Lower John’s Street Area Pedestrian and Cycle Measures

 

Notice Under Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994

 

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994, Cork City Council hereby gives notice of its intention to carry out the following traffic management measures in the interest of the safety and convenience of road users.

 

The main elements of the proposed works at Knapp’s Square and Lower John’s Street are: -

  • The provision of a southbound contraflow cycle lane from Cathedral Walk along Upper John St and the northern part of Lower John St.
  • The provision of a quiet way along Lower John Street and Knapp’s Square to facilitate two-way cycle movements to provide connectivity from Blackpool to City Centre
  • The provision of Cycle Steps on Marys Lane and Bob and Joan’s Walk to allow cycle connectivity between Lower John Street and the Shandon area.
  • Introduction of 30 kph speed limit Lower John Street and Knapp’s Square.
  • New public realm to the Saint John Villas and Curry’s Rock areas.
  • Provision of trees and planting where appropriate across the extent of the scheme
  • Upgrade of footpaths and provision raised tables at Knapp’s Square , Lower John Street and junction at Bob and Joan Walk
  • Relocation of the parking at the northern end of Upper John Street to the western side.
  • New public lighting over the extent of the works.
  • New road marking and signage
  • Other necessary associated works.

 

Details of the proposed works are available for inspection online at https://consult.corkcity.ie from Friday 28th May 2021 to Friday 25th June 2021 between 9.00am and 4.00pm.

 

Any observations in relation to this proposal should be made on electronically through https://consult.corkcity.ie/en/ or forwarded in an envelope ‘Knapp’s Square and Lower John’s Street Area Pedestrian and Cycle Measures’ to Senior Engineer, Infrastructure Development, City Hall, Anglesea Street, Cork. Final date for submissions is 4.00pm on Friday 9th July 2021.

 

All comments, including names and addresses of those making submissions and observations, submitted to Cork City Council regarding this scheme, will form part of the statutorily required report to be presented at the monthly meeting of Cork City Council. Accordingly, they will be included in the minutes of that meeting and may appear in the public domain. Cork City Council will retain data for no longer than is necessary and in accordance with the Council’s Retention Policy and relevant Data Protection legislation.
