RE: PART 8 – PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT REGULATIONS 2001
Cork City Council propose to construct a pedestrian & cycle bridge over the north channel of the River Lee linking Merchant’s Quay and St Patrick’s Quay opposite Harley's Street in Cork City Centre.
The project aims to provide improved pedestrian and cycle connectivity in general, with particular benefits for travel between Kent Station & McCurtain Street on the northern side of the channel and Parnell Place, the City Centre & the Bus Station on the southern side.
Located on an axis with Harley's Street, the bridge aims to fit sympathetically with the surrounding quays, buildings and urban realm. It will provide a convenient and accessible link across the river with minimal visual intrusion on the river vista or river channel.
The proposed bridge is a low lying, semi-elliptical, single span bridge with associated abutments located behind the line of the existing quay walls. In plan, the bridge provides two 2.35m clear walkways either side of the central spine, with both walkways widening to 3.10m at mid-span. The adjoining public realm will be enhanced and adjusted to seamlessly connect the bridge with the adjoining quays.

Volume 1 is the Drawing Package, Volume 2 is the Preliminary Design Report and Volume 3 is the Enviormental Package including Enviormental screening and reports.These will also be available for inspection at the Reception Desk, Cork City Council, City Hall, Cork, from Monday, 10th July 2017 until Tuesday 22nd of August 2017 between the hours of 9.00am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday.
Submissions and observations, dealing with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area in which the proposed development is situated, may be made in writing in an envelope clearly marked “Harley Street Pedestrian & Cycle Bridge” to the Roads Design Division, Room 331, City Hall, Cork, or by email to roadsdesign@corkcity.ie before 4.00pm on Tuesday 5th Sept 2017. Submission may also be made through this online consultation portal while it is open. Please note that submissions made through this portal are not visable to other users when submitted.
