Old Court Greenfield Offline Bus Stop/Stand Scheme

Notice Under Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994

Greenfields for a northbound offline Bus Stop & Stand, south of the junction of Old Court. Provision of a bus stop and stand, upgrade existing traffic island to include an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing and modification to the layout of the existing footway.

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994, Cork City Council hereby gives notice of its intention to carry out the following traffic management measures in the interest of the safety and convenience of road users.

Old Court Greenfield Offline Bus Stop/Stand Scheme

It is proposed to enhance the provision of public bus services by introducing one new offline bus stop and stand on Greenfields near its junction with Old Court.  The roadway will be modified to accommodate a new bus stop/stand, upgrade of an existing traffic island to include an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing and modification to the layout of the existing footway.

The main elements of the proposed works are:

  • Proposed 53m lay-by bus stop/stand to be built in existing footway and grass verge.
  • Proposed hardstanding and footway to be installed in the grass verge.
  • Regrading of the existing grass verge to tie in with the new hardstanding/footway levels.
  • Accessible kerbing to be provided along the length of the northbound bus boarding area.
  • Installation of new buff tactile paving to upgrade existing uncontrolled crossing.
  • Installation of a new bus shelter and flag pole.
  • Renewal/replacement of other road drainage, road signage, lighting and road markings as might be necessary.
  • All other associated ancillary site works.

In accordance with the Habitats Directive, an Appropriate Assessment (AA) Screening has been carried out for the project, in relation to any potential impacts upon the Cork Harbour Special Protection Area [Site No. 004030] and the Great Island Channel Special Area of Conservation [Site No. 001058]. The findings of the AA screening concluded that no significant effects on any Natura 2000 sites is likely and it was not necessary to undertake any further stage of the Appropriate Assessment process.

In addition, the proposed project has been screened to determine whether an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required and it has been concluded that the proposed development would not be likely to have significant effect on the environment and that the preparation and submission of an Environmental Impact report is not therefore required.

Details of the proposed works including an Appropriate Assessment screening report and Environmental Impact Assessment screening report are available for inspection online at https://consult.corkcity.ie, at Reception Desk, Cork City Council, City Hall, Anglesea Street, Cork on working days from Friday 13th June 2025 to Friday 18th July 2025 between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m.
