NOTICE UNDER SECTION 38 OF THE ROAD TRAFFIC ACT 1994 (AS AMENDED)
Proposed Pedestrian Crossing Safety Schemes
Pursuant to the provisions of Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994 (as amended) Cork City Council hereby gives notice of its intention to carry out pedestrian crossing improvement works at the following eight locations:
R639 Riverstown Road at Glanmire Community Centre – Upgrading the existing zebra crossing in the vicinity of the Riverstown Inn and Community Centre, road marking, provision of belisha beacons integrated with public lighting.
R639 Riverstown Road at Glanmire GAA –A raised table zebra crossing is proposed along with a footpath build-out on the western side of the R639 to narrow the crossing distance for pedestrians in the vicinity of Glanmire GAA. New road markings on approaches to the crossing, additional lighting, integrated belisha beacon with lighting. A pedestrian only access to GAA Club would be provided close to the zebra crossing to avoid pedestrians having to access the GAA Club via the current vehicular access.
R639 Riverstown Road at The Hermitage estate – footpath on the Hermitage Estate is extended at the junction along the eastern side of R639 for approximately 20m, an uncontrolled crossing is introduced by installing a dropped kerb in the existing footpath along with associated tactile paving.
R617 Tower to Blarney Road at Shournagh Drive –Installation of a new signalised crossing is proposed on the R617 between the existing bus stops to the east of Shournagh Drive. New footpath build-outs will reduce the existing corner radii the Shournagh Drive junction and reduce the crossing distance for pedestrians. An uncontrolled crossing of Shournagh Drive will improve accessibility
R617 Tower to Blarney Road at Primrose Hill Estate – Installation of a new signalised controlled crossing is proposed on the R617 between the bus stops to the west of the entrance and the entrance to Primrose Hill.
L1010 Pearse Road at Scoil Maria Assumpta – Installation of a new raised zebra crossing to replace the current school warden crossing point and a speed table would be provided on approach to the zebra crossing. Kerb radii at the nearby junctions with Nuns Walk and Pearse Road would be tightened would new dropped kerbs and tactile paving provided at crossing points. Bollards would be provided close to the proposed raised zebra crossing to prevent inappropriate parking on the wide existing footpaths.
L5283 Eglantine Park at Scoil Bhride Eglantine –the school zone will be enhanced with a raised table zebra crossing which would be installed between newly constructed footpath build-outs on both sides of the road near the school. A separate speed table would be installed approaching the new raised zebra crossing from the Douglas Road. Pencil bollards would be provided on approach to the zebra crossing to discourage inappropriate parking close to the crossing.
