NOTICE UNDER SECTION 38 OF THE ROAD TRAFFIC ACT 1994 (AS AMENDED)

Proposed Scoil Oilibhéir Road Safety Improvement Scheme

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994 (as amended), Cork City Council hereby gives notice of its intention to carry out the following road safety improvement works in the interest of the safety and convenience of users of Glenheights Park in the vicinity of Scoil Oilibhéir National School. It is proposed to carry out works to upgrade the existing uncontrolled crossing outside Scoil Oilibhéir National School to a raised Zebra crossing. Specifically, the works will comprise of the following:

•             Construction of a raised road surface at the crossing

•             Installation of a Type B Zebra crossing,

•             Alterations to the footpaths at either side of the crossing,

•             Installation of road signage and road markings, and

•             All other associated ancillary site works.

In accordance with the Habitats Directive, an Appropriate Assessment (AA) Screening has been carried out on the proposed scheme, in relation to any potential impacts upon the Cork Harbour Special Protection Area [Site No. 004030] and the Great Island Channel Special Area of Conservation [Site No. 001058]. The findings of the AA screening noted that no significant effects on any Natura 2000 sites are likely, and it was not necessary to undertake any further stage of the Appropriate Assessment process. In addition, the proposed scheme has been screened to determine whether an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required, and it has been concluded that there will be no real likelihood of significant effects on the environment arising from the proposed scheme and that an EIA is not required.
