Public Consultation on the Draft Integrated Urban Strategy for Shandon
Cork City Council and their project partners AtkinsRéalis, John McLaughlin Architects and the Shandon Community are developing an ambitious heritage led Integrated Urban Strategy (IUS) for the Shandon Area which is progressedunder the Government’s Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme (THRIVE) and is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the Southern, Eastern and Midland Regional Programme 2021-2027. In line with the guidance set out in the “Town Centre First – Approach for Irish Towns” and the THRIVE guidelines the strategy will set out a visual, action-based roadmap for the future development and revitalisation of this historic neighbourhood.
Following on from a successful initial consultation event in August which saw over 140 attendees and over 190 survey responses received with further targeted stakeholder engagements carried out, feedback has been taken on board and a Draft Integrated Urban Strategy for the Shandon Area has been prepared.
It sets out a number of potential actions and projects to be developed and rolled out in partnership with the community, including a number of potential priority projects. We are particularly keen to hear feedback on these actions/projects and any suggestions for how the Strategy might be improved to ensure that it is sufficiently responsive to local need.
Please be aware that the potential actions and projects, and the detail of same, are DRAFT only at this point of the process and that all actions and projects within the plan with an identified cost will be subject to funding. A section within the Draft Plan is dedicated to implementation with a view to ensuring an action focussed approach in this regard.
The Draft Strategy was launched at a second consultation event at the Dance Cork Firkin Crane on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th October and is available through this portal to view and make submissions on until Friday 15th November 2024.
We welcome and look forward to hearing your views.
