Pedestrian Safety Interventions

Notice Under Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994, Cork City Council hereby gives notice of its intention to carry out the following traffic management measures in the interest of the safety and convenience of road users.

Magazine Road

It is proposed to install a controlled pedestrian crossing on Magazine Road at the entrance to the Public Park adjacent to Presetation Brothers Sports Ground. It is also proposed to upgrade footpaths in the area. A crossing at this location would encourage walking from residents in the area to UCC, Bons Secours hospital and Dennehy’s Cross. This crossing would also facilitate cyclists wishing to proceed through the park to the Glasheen road and beyond.

It is proposed to

  • Provide a controlled crossing
  • Upgrade sections of footpath in the area
  • New road marking and signage;
  • Other necessary associated works.

Mick Barry Road

This scheme seeks to provide footpath facilities on the Mick Barry and Kinsale Road and would connect the Black Ash Park & Ride to the Kinsale Road.  A footpath and crossing points at this location would encourage walking to and from the park & ride and would be of benefit to local business and nearby sports grounds. The crossing points and footpaths are to be incorporated into the existing signalised junction at Mick Barry Road and Kinsale Road.

It is proposed to

  • Construct a new footpath from the park and ride to the Kinsale Road
  • Upgrade sections of footpath in the area
  • New pedestrian crossing points;
  • Other necessary associated works.

Details of the proposed works are available for inspection online at https://consult.corkcity.ie/en/ or at the Reception Desk, Cork City Council, City Hall, Anglesea Street, Cork on working days from Friday the 25th of January 2019 to Friday the 22nd of February 2019 between 9am and 4.00pm.

Any observations in relation to this proposal should be made on electronically through https://consult.corkcity.ie/en/ or forwarded in an envelope marked “Pedestrian Safety Interventions” to Transportation Division, Room 112, Cork City Council, City Hall, Anglesea Street, Cork. Final date for submissions is 4pm on Friday the 22nd of February 2019.
