PUBLIC NOTICE

NOTICE UNDER SECTION 37 OF THE ROAD TRAFFIC ACT 1994 (AS AMENDED)

Proposed Weight Restriction (Traffic Management) for Richmond Hill

Under section 37 of the Road Traffic Act 1994 (as amended) a Road Authority may after consultation with the Commissioner, provide for public roads in their charge such regulatory signs as they consider desirable. Cork City Council now proposes to introduce a maximum vehicle weight restriction (traffic management) of 3.5 tonnes on Richmond Hill. To implement this restriction, two regulatory 3.5 tonne restriction signs (RUS 015) will be installed at the top and bottom of Richmond Hill. Additionally, advance warning signs (W114) accompanied with the appropriate supplementary plates will be placed in advance of Richmond Hill on Old Youghal Road to alert drivers of the restriction. The Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations (Article 5) list the vehicles that the prohibition on the entry of a vehicle to a road do not apply to, which include emergency vehicles, refuse vehicles and maintenance vehicles.

Plans and particulars of the proposed restriction will be available for public inspection from Friday 01st of May of 2026 until Tuesday 02nd June 2026:

  • electronically via Cork City Council’s Online Consultation Portal at https://consult.corkcity.ie
  • at the public reception desk of Cork City Council’s offices at City Hall, Anglesea Street, Cork T12 T997, between the hours of 9:00am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays.

Submissions and observations with respect to the proposed changes may be made;

  • electronically via Cork City Council’s Online Consultation Portal at https://consult.corkcity.ie
  • in writing to “Senior Executive Engineer, Traffic Regulation & Safety, Room 339, City Hall, Anglesea Street, Cork, T12 T997

The deadline for receipt of submissions and observations is 5:00 pm on Tuesday 02nd June 2026.

All comments, including names and addresses of those making submissions and observations, submitted to Cork City Council in regard to this proposal, will form part of the statutorily required report to be presented at the monthly meeting of Cork City Council. Accordingly, they will be included in the minutes of that meeting and may appear in the public domain. Cork City Council will retain data for no longer than is necessary and in accordance with the Council’s Retention Policy and relevant Data Protection legislation.
