8. Heritage, Arts & Culture

As a scientist, immunologist, lecturer in UCC and above all of these a parent, I feel this is a huge opportunity to occupy a space much neglected in Ireland which would be to establish a Science Museum in Cork.

Explorium in  Dublin fills this gap to a certain extent but like so many cultural activities in Ireland is based in Dublin. We have a thriving vibrant scientific community in Cork which could all be showcased in a science museum which would aswell provide much needed education in STEM for children. Furthermore, it should be noted that many smaller cities in the UK and across euriope have excellent science museums providing regional options in this important sphere

There is a shocking lack of indoor cultural activities in cork available to families- consider the fact that the public museum in Fitzgerald's park looks essentially the same as when I was a child and has minimal appeal for children. This is a fantastic opportunity to move Cork into a hugely exciting space with respect to culture and tourism.
