To whom it concerns,

We wish to make a submission to the City Development Plan 2022 to 2028, suggesting a greenway linking the Passage Greenway to the Well Road/Douglas/Ballinlough areas. This would also allow for potential future extensions to join with the Tramore Valley Greenway.

A rough outline of this proposal is indicated in yellow in our attachment below.

Most of the land required is in public ownership, and specifically Mahon Golf Course. The golf course may be impacted but we believe a golf course and greenway can co-exist with some careful planning.

As it stands, the estuary is effectively inaccessible to the public as it is blocked by the South Ring Road to the South and Mahon Golf Course as well as private houses to the North.

To create access to the estuary for the general public would be transformative for people living in the area, not to mention the benefits for visitors and tourists enjoying all those extra miles of greenway.

Best Regards,

Príomh-thuairim:

The City Development Plan allows for a potentially transformative extension of the Passage Greenway to the Douglas/Ballinlough area and to the Tramore Valley Greenway via a cycle/pedestrian route skirting Mahon Golf Course.

Príomh-iarratais:

To update the Draft Development Plan, specifically Map 06 of the Mapped Objectives, to include a Walkway/Cycleway circumnavigating Mahon Golf Course.

Main reasons:

To improve pedestrian and cycling connectivity and provide greater public accessibility to Douglas Estuary.
