4. Transport and Mobility

To Whom it May Concern,

I wish to register my support to the following amendments:

1.35

1.38

1.41

1.42

1.46

1.72

1.86

1.88

1.91

1.237

1.243

1.298

1.320

1.321

1.322

1.326

1.331

The reason for my support is to improve walking/cycling and public transport and strive towards the 15 mins city concept outlined in the development plan.  This HAS to be the way forward for our city, at a minimum.

I wish to register my objections to the following amendments:

1.241

1.247

1.332

And I wish to register my objection again to the Monahan Road extension and East Gate Bridge.

As outlined in my previous submission to object to the proposed Monahan road extension and East Gate bridge, we now live in a CLIMATE EMERGENCY and there should no longer be any doubt that we have to do our utmost to move away from a car centric city and move towards a greener, healthier city that prioritises walking/cycling and the use of public transport.

Road building should be the very last resort and only where completely necessary.  In this case, for Cork City's development, the promotion of road building is tantamount to killing our planet and the futures for our children.

It is ludicrous that our City Council is even entertaining the very idea of building another road, when we already have Monahan Road, Centre Park Road and Blackrock Road.  Not to mention Boreenmanna Road.

This road is completely unnecessary and also goes against the National Planning Framework, which strives to reduce traffic & car dependency requirements for climate action.

As the latest IDCC reports state, we have to reduce our emissions and not in 10, 20 years.  This has to be done IMMEDIATELY.

And hopefully Cork City will see sense and lead the way by prioritising walking/cycling public transport and remove any unnecessary road building projects from the development plan.  It is abundantly clear that all this will achieve is bring MORE traffic into the area and increase pollution/emissions.

Regards,

Tony Quirke
