The best practices for tree care are made public through educational campaigns including to council workers. Not to mow around newly planted trees.
That Cork City Council embraces publicly the idea of tree planting and tree care. Trees have innumerable benefits from improving the beauty of city’s ,in summer they can reduce the temperature of pavements and buildings, they are also known to improve people’s mental health , and sense of well-being
.That the council ( if not doing it already) collects leaves for making leaf mold that could perhaps be given to gardeners, allotments, and parks this is a valuable resource that should not be wasted. Each year there must be tons of this material that could be used.
Where possible we would encourage the council to leave leaves in place as this in itself improves biodiversity
There is awareness raised of the benefits of wild plants, and their benifits for example nettles, brambles, ivy etc.
