COMHAIRLE CATHRACH CHORCAI
CORK CITY COUNCIL

Kerry Pike Pedestrian Improvement Scheme

Notice Under Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994, Cork City Council hereby gives notice of its intention to carry out the following traffic management measures in the interest of the safety and convenience of road users.

Kerry Pike Pedestrian Improvement Scheme, Cork City

It is proposed to provide high-quality pedestrian improvement works on the L2779 through Kerry Pike.

The main elements of the proposed works are:

-    New footpaths to provide a continuous footpath provision through the village;
-    Provision of new controlled Zebra pedestrian crossings;
-    Provision of new uncontrolled pedestrian crossings;
-    Provision of traffic calming in the form of raised tables to encourage lower vehicle speeds through the village and to improve pedestrian comfort along the route;
-    New drainage as required with the introduction of footpaths;
-    New road markings and signage; and
-    Other necessary associated works.

In accordance with the Habitats Directive, an Appropriate Assessment (AA) Screening has been carried out for the project, in relation to any potential impacts upon any Natura 2000 sites, including the Cork Harbour SPA (004030), the Great Island Channel SAC (001058), the Blackwater River (Cork/Waterford) SAC and The Gearagh SAC (000108). The findings of the AA screening concluded that no significant effects on any Natura 2000 sites are likely and it was not necessary to undertake any further stage of the Appropriate Assessment process.

In addition, the proposed project has been screened to determine whether an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required and it has been concluded that the proposed development would not be likely to have a significant effect on the environment and that the preparation and submission of an environmental impact report is not therefore required.

Details of the proposed works including an Appropriate Assessment screening report and Environmental Impact Assessment screening report are available for inspection online at https://consult.corkcity.ie and also at Reception Desk, Cork City Council, City Hall, Anglesea Street, Cork T12 T997 on working days from Monday the 4th of March 2024 to Monday the 15th  of April 2024 between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. and Blarney Library, on opening days from Monday the 4th of March 2024 to Monday the 15th of April 2024 between 10.00 a.m. and 5.30 p.m.
