Parnell Place Bus Stops

Notice Under Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994, Cork City Council hereby gives notice of its intention to carry out the following traffic management measures in the interest of the safety and convenience of road users.

Parnell Place Bus Stops

As part of the rollout of the new improved bus network for Cork new accessible bus stops/stands are required on Parnell Place.

The main elements of the proposed works are:

  • Provision of two bus stops/stands on the southern section of Parnell Place accessed via a boarding island.
  • Relocation of loading bays to north of bus stops and to the eastern side of the road with associated removal of on-street parking (southern section of Parnell Place only).
  • Alterations to lane designations to suit the above.
  • Renewal/replacement of other road drainage, road signage and road markings as might be necessary.
  • All other associated ancillary site works.

In accordance with the Habitats Directive, an Appropriate Assessment (AA) Screening has been carried out for the project, in relation to any potential impacts upon any Natura 2000 sites, including the Cork Harbour SPA (004030), the Great Island Channel SAC (001058), the Blackwater River (Cork/Waterford) SAC and The Gearagh SAC (000108). The findings of the AA screening concluded that no significant effects on any Natura 2000 sites are likely and it was not necessary to undertake any further stage of the Appropriate Assessment process.

In addition, the proposed project has been screened to determine whether an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required and it has been concluded that the proposed development would not be likely to have a significant effect on the environment and that the preparation and submission of an environmental impact report is not therefore required.

Details of the proposed works including an Appropriate Assessment screening report and Environmental Impact Assessment screening report are available for inspection online at https://consult.corkcity.ie, and at Reception Desk, Cork City Council, City Hall, Anglesea Street, Cork on working days from Friday 27th October 2023 to Friday 15th December 2023 between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m.
