I have put forward proposals in the past to Cork County Council to put thousands of low cost homes in East Cork, east of Dunkettle.
The homes can be built with a direct connection to a greenway into the city and from the Blackrock side via my proposed floating bridge connection to the Tivoli Port site.
As the Tivoli Port site is the last large bastion of land close to the city I suggest that the western side of that site could be used for a hospital.
The hospital could provide a service for East Cork, north of the City and the Southside.
The floating bridge could be used by transfering a patient to a modified quadbike to take a stretcher.
My proposed high level bridge would also be the other option should if ever be considered.
The north of the Fota Complex could also be considered for a hospital with a connection from my proposed elevated flyover at the Dunkettle roundabout.
As the port site would be ideal for open air concerts, a park and ride using the greenway, etc, the parking would allow the city's population to grow.
By preserving the open space, the open aspect of the harbour would be secured.
I know a person would be condemned for objecting to housing but when one has a low cost alternative located a short distance away, one should look at the bigger picture.
Should the council purchase the port site off the Port of Cork it would preserve the site as an asset for the city and have a possible park as well on the eastern side of the city.
That council should purchase land at this site for such a development
