This is an exciting time for Ballincollig Community Forum and a very exciting time for the Community of Ballincollig.
Ballincollig is a very vibrant town with plenty of shopping facilities, schools and sports facilities. It is a hub for arts, culture and heritage and we have a wonderful resource in our Regional Park. We have dedicated volunteers who run and participate in groups, organisations and clubs throughout the community. However, as Ballincollig continues to develop into a town we can be proud of, it continues to lack a central hub for community members to call their own.
Ballincollig has been lacking a purpose-built Community Centre, which should be become a centre point for the people of Ballincollig, where they can come to have meetings, play sports, be part of a group or just meet up with friends for a cup of coffee. It could be a home to display the heritage and history of Ballincollig and will be a space for the organisations in Ballincollig to work side by side and acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of each and every group in the community.
This new community centre will be owned by, used by and managed by the community. It will be built by the community for the community!! It will be a big development for Ballincollig and will take a lot of hard work, commitment and dedication from community members. The people of Ballincollig have the skills, the expertise and the work ethic needed to ensure that this community facility is developed to the highest standards and meets the needs of the whole community.
Ballincollig Community Forum looks forward to working with individuals, groups and organisations to bring this essential development to fruition and ensure positive growth and cohesion within our community.
To date the Ballincollig Community Forum has consulted with over forty organisations to act as an umbrella group to ensure that the voices of those organisations are being represented. The Community Forum are also working with the Ballincollig Family Resource Centre to look at an alternative space to house the centre and act as a potential anchor tenant in any future development that may occur.
This is a well deserved and badly needed development for the ever-expanding town of Ballincollig
