Sustainable Transport in CIty Centre

More ambitious aims and binding goals needed in this regard. Air Quality is poor due to vehicle pollution, makes cycling and walking unpleasant at peak times, and danger to health from particulate matter.

Pollution emitted from car exhausts is at a level where it affects small children walking and in buggies at a higher dosage level. So while actively encouraging people to cycle and walk more, it should be made safer from a public health perspective by reducing pollution from private cars by limiting their use in the City Centre.

Would like to see plans to decarbonise the public transport sector as well reduce costs and increase availability to make more appealing vs polluting private cars.

In 2021 any plans to develop roads which are planned for majority private car use is irresponsible in light of climate crisis. Roads should be prioritised for cyclists and pedestrians, and piublic transport.

More cycling infrastructure that is protected by being separated from motorists and reduction of cars in the congested city centre. Enforcement of Pana ban and encouraging public transport use would have a far greater effect than costly and ineffective robot trees.

Dereliction & Vacancy During unprecedented Housing Crisis in Cork

Would like to see CPO for derelict and vacant properties. Appalling to see such high levels of dereliction and vacancy in prime city centre properties in the middle of a housing crisis. More sustainable to refurb already existing properties than the cost and new materials of high rise buildings. Also we should maintain and protect our heritage built environment. Higher density living in city more sustainable as reduced need for private cars, city centre would be very pleasant if majority cyclist/ pedestrian, public transport based. Dereliction makes streets in city unwelcoming and feel unsafe. Neighbouring properties are affected by rodent infestations in the abandoned properties.

This level of dereliction is not seen in other European Cities as built heritage is valued and laws in place to prevent property hoarding. Only property owners who could afford to sit on vacant properties without rental income would let this happen, a sign of wealth more than anything but makes our city look neglected and unappealing. Shame to see priceless heritage crumbling before our eyes in Cork City. Particularly in light of the fact an individual was killed by a dangerous building in the 1990s and years later we are still in the same situation, if not worse with a higher number of properties in even worse condition.
